LiveJournal Housekeeping - Like Real Housekeeping, Annoyingly Necesary [Apr. 12th, 2009|05:09 pm]
I've had this LiveJournal for about seven years now when [info]dinopollard (hey Dino!) gave me a code back in 2002. This journal has always been public. In a few months, I will be a licensed professional looking for a job who will be working with the public on a daily basis. I need to be aware of my safety and privacy. Over the past few months, I have made this journal Friends Only. Going through each individual entry and locking it has been really rewarding actually as I've reread each entry and its comments. Hindsight, my friends, oh hindsight!

I don't really want to do a massive "Friends Cut" because that just seems kind of Internet petty eye roll, but I've been so liberal with my friends addition over the years that I'm honestly not quite sure who some usernames are anymore (my brains don't work good sometimes! :/) or if people are still interested in reading my ramblings or what the deal is with all that. So I guess if you're still interested in being LJ pals and reading what this chillin has to say now and then, even if you're 99.9999% sure I know who you are, please comment below just saying "hey Laura, don't delete my ass" or something. I don't know, I hate it when people make these posts demanding that people declare their mad Internet love for them, but I don't know how else to do this.

So in short:

Wanna keeping seeing my doofy face on your friends list? COMMENT!

Please help me out! [Sep. 1st, 2008|09:03 pm]
For my Honors project this semester I am assisting one of my professors in his research by recruiting participants. We are especially looking for minority participants as they are currently underrepresented in the study. The survey is geared toward straight people's attitudes but people of all sexualities are welcome to take the survey. Thank you!!!

Survey link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=s76ti3lVgFCtWsN8tqL_2fOQ_3d_3d

Dear Interested Participant,

I am seeking straight/heterosexual participants to complete a survey. The
reason I have contacted you via an individual email or listserv is because
you or your listserv have an audience of members from different
racial/ethnic groups.

• I am developing a survey to measure the likelihood that
straight/heterosexual persons can identify as an ally to lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.
• This survey will be used to measure how well training programs increase
the ability of straight/heterosexual persons to support and advocate for
lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons. The knowledge from
this study will be used to benefit the rights and needs of LGBT
communities.
• I am actively seeking straight/heterosexual participants from
minority communities because I wish to include a strong
representative sample of the voices from various racial/ethnic
communities.
• At present, the goal is to collect surveys from 300 respondents because
that is the minimum number to ensure that the survey analysis is valid. We
have sent out email inquiries to 100 organizations similar to yours. If we
obtain at least 3 survey participants from your list of possible
interested persons that would help us reach our goal. Again, no one is
under any obligation to complete the survey, but based on past comments,
we wanted to inform you about why we need that many participants.
• If you are concerned that this email is spam email, please contact Peter
Ji or the Office for the Protection of Research Subjects at the
information listed below to verify the legitimacy of this email.
• We hope to have the statistical analysis done by the fall of 2008 and we
hope to send out a report of these results by that time. You may request a
copy of the report at the end of the survey or by contacting Peter Ji via
email.
• There is no deadline to complete the surveys. Surveys will continue to
be collected until we reach our sample goal.
• Participants must be over 18.
• The survey is meant for participants who identify as heterosexual or
straight, but persons who identify as LGBT are encouraged to review the
survey.
• This survey can be distributed to anyone, including staff, co-workers,
family members, and friends.

If you agree to be in this research, I will ask you to do the following
things:

• Click on this link to visit this website:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=s76ti3lVgFCtWsN8tqL_2fOQ_3d_3d and
complete the survey measures.
• Your participation in this research is voluntary.
• Participants have completed the survey in 40 minutes. The web based
survey will allow you to start the survey, save your responses, and return
later to complete the survey. Simply click the exit link on the top right
hand corner of the survey webpage. When you return to the webpage,
re-click the survey weblink above, OR you can bookmark the survey page and
return to it. You can re-visit this survey as often as you wish until it
is completed. You need to use the original computer that you used to
complete the survey.

If you have questions, please contact Peter Ji, Ph.D., principal
investigator, at 312-355-6344 or via email at petji@uic.edu.
• Please leave your name, phone number, and an email address.
• The University of Illinois at Chicago is the home base for this research
study.
• You may contact the Office for the Protection of Research Subjects at
312-996-1711 or by email at uicirb@uic.edu, protocol # 2006-0374, for any
questions about this study.

Thank you.
Peter Ji, Ph.D.
